Turn me into a flower
Video Art, 2024
“Turn me into a Flower” is the title of a song by Weyes Blood, a title that immediately caught my attention – its visual nature sparking my curiosity. Throughout my research, I discovered that the song is inspired by the myth of Narcissus.
Traditionally, this myth serves as a cautionary tale about vanity: Narcissus, obsessed by his own reflection, ultimately transforms into a flower. This story is often framed negatively, but I wanted to offer a more empathetic perspective, much like the song itself.
My interpretation explores the idea of self-perception and identity. The protagonist becomes obsessed with an idealized version of herself, one she barely recognizes. Yet the person she admires, longs for, and even falls in love with — is herself. Instead of rejecting this self-obsession, I embrace it as a form of self-love.
The transformation into a flower represents a moment of realization — a surrender to beauty, softness, and vulnerability. It is not a punishment, but a liberation.
